Rules of The Divots Golfing Society

1. The name of the Society shall be the 'Divots Golfing Society'.
2. The objects of the Society are to arrange competitions among its members and fixtures with other Societies and Clubs, in an endeavour to promote good-fellowship amongst golfers and to foster the spirit of the game of golf.
3. The Society shall consist of not more than sixty Ordinary Members, a President, Vice-Presidents, Life Members, Country Members and Senior Members to which category an 'Ordinary Member' may, at the discretion of Committee may be transferred if he shall no longer be able to play competitive golf but wishes to retain an interest in the Society.
4. The Officers of the Society shall be a President, Vice-Presidents, a Captain, a Vice-Captain, a Secretary and a Treasurer.
5. The entire management of the Society shall be vested in a Committee of members which shall consist of the Officers of the Society and two other members of the Society. Four members of the Committee shall form a quorum.
6. Nomination of the officers (with the exception of the Vice-Captain) and of members to serve on the Committee, proposed and seconded, must be sent in writing to the Secretary at least seven days before the Annual General Meeting which shall be held on the day of the summer meeting or on the 1st July in each year, whichever shall be later.
Officers (with the exception of the Vice-Captain) and Members to serve on the Committee shall be elected by ballot at each Annual General Meeting. The Captain so elected shall nominate his Vice-Captain for his year of office. The outgoing Captain shall not be eligible for this nomination.
Officers and members of the Committee shall hold office until the next Annual General Meeting, when they shall retire, but shall be eligible for re-election from year to year.
7. Members shall pay such subscriptions as the Committee shall from time to time decide and subscriptions shall be due on the day of the summer meeting, which shall be held as near as possible to 1st July in each year.
8. Election to membership of the Society shall be in the sole power of the Committee, but any member may, once in each year of the Society propose or second a candidate for membership. The Committee shall also have sole power to suspend or expel any member or to reinstate a former member.
9. Any ordinary member who does not attend at least one of the golfing meetings arranged by the Committee during the Society's year shall cease to be a member unless the Committee decide otherwise.
10. Any decision of the Committee shall be binding on all members.
11. The Committee may recommend, at any Annual General Meeting of tbe Society, that any member who has rendered signal service to the Society be elected a Life Member. Any such election must receive the unanimous vote of all members present at such Annual General Meeting. Life Members shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership without payment of any annual or other subscription.
12. Members shall at all times strictly observe and abide by the rules of golf as laid down by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews.
